Ready to serve as a leader or speaker of ITLS?
ITLS is seeking highly qualified candidates interested in serving as a member of the ITLS Board of Directors. Board members support the ITLS Mission: Save lives by empowering individuals and communities worldwide with high-quality trauma education.
The Speaker and Vice Speaker will also be elected this year. These leaders chair the business meeting at the International Trauma Conference and direct the activities of the chapter-appointed delegates.
Board Roles & Responsibilities:
The ITLS Board of Directors is responsible for the organization’s success and governance. The Board has a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the organization and its stakeholders, ensuring sustainability, accountability, in achieving its mission.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mission and Strategy: responsible for ensuring that the nonprofit stays true to its mission and strategic goals
- Governance and Oversight: to ensure the organization operates legally, ethically, and effectively. This includes approving policies, monitoring financial performance, and overseeing risk management
- Financial Oversight: approving budgets, reviewing financial statements, and ensuring adequate financial controls are in place
- Strategic Planning and Decision Making: set long-term goals and priorities for the organization. This includes making key decisions about major initiatives, partnerships, and organizational direction
- Collaboration and Partnerships: working alongside the staff, committees, volunteers, and other key stakeholders to advance the mission and achieve the goals of ITLS
Qualifications & Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible to serve on the ITLS Board of Directors, potential candidates must:
- Be an active participant in ITLS chapter or international activities for at least two of the last five years.
- Be experienced in teaching or coordinating ITLS courses.
- Demonstrate a high-level of motivation in the development of ITLS within the chapter or at the international level.
- Demonstrate experience in leadership roles, either within ITLS or with other professional or volunteer organizations.
- Disclose all potential conflicts of interest.
Board of Director Term:
- Board members serve a 3-year term that shall begin immediately upon election (2025 – 2028)
- Elected Directors are limited to 3 successive terms.
Please note that potential candidates who have previously served on the Board of Director are only eligible for nomination if it has been at least one (1) full year since their term or service to the Board has ended.
Candidates for Speaker and Vice Speaker must be credentialed delegates representing their ITLS chapter for the 2025 congress. They are responsible for advancing the ITLS mission by leading the congress business meeting.

- The following questions will be answered and limited to 300 words each:
- Describe your involvement with your ITLS Chapter.
- Describe your involvement with ITLS International (committees, etc.).
- What other volunteer or leadership activities have you been involved with?
- Describe any previous or current experiences on other Boards.
- If applicable, does your employer support your candidacy for ITLS leadership position? Yes/No
- Why are you interested in serving on the ITLS Board?
- Upload a Letter of Support from the ITLS Chapter which is signed by the Chapter Coordinator and/or Medical Director (maximum 2 pages).
- Upload your CV/Resume limited to two (2) pages (8.5 X 11 size) and accepted formats to upload should be PDF or Word Document.
- Upload your Photo. Accepted formats are PNG, JPG or related image.
The Awards, Bylaws and Nominations Committee will review all submitted applications. The Committee will determine the final slate of candidates for election from the applications. If a candidate is not recommended for nomination by the Committee, they can run as a floor candidate during the International Trauma Business meeting. The process for floor nominations will be announced prior to the meeting.
Selected candidates will be notified with the Board Candidate Qualifications and Campaign Rules and required information for next steps in the process following the nomination deadline.
The Board election will take place during the ITLS Business & Awards Session in Charlotte, North Carolina.
